Chapin bills itself at the capital of lake Murray, and rightfully so. Incorporated in 1889 by Martin Chapin, the area was well known for timber and had the benefit of being located next to the railroad and two rivers. In 1927 the ambitious project to create a dam on the Saluda River formed Lake Murray, and the rest, as they say, is history. The lake covers 78 square miles and over 50,000 acres of land.

While Chapin boasts state and nationally recognized schools, it has kept its small town feel. There is a Labor Day parade, a Chapin Farmers Market, a Chapin Community Service Day, and a small town square that hosts some charming boutiques. But there are also national grocery stores, and world renowned businesses such as Ellet Brothers, Chapin Furniture and GIS. Easy access via I-26 makes travel to Columbia and nearby Columbianna Mall easy, but with Crooked Creek Park, the proposed Chapin Town park, and the lake, why would you want to leave?

Chapin is also home to Timberlake Planation, a member owned country club in a unique planned community with a variety of homes perfect for couples, families and retirees.
